A Peak Into Kink

On a recent visit to San Francisco, I attended what I’m sure is the only porn studio tour you can take in the United States. Internet pornography giant Kink.com offers tours of their production studios located at the historic Armory in the Mission District of SF. The building has been on the corner of 14th & Mission since 1912 and was once a functioning armory & arsenal for the US National Guard. In 1976, the National Guard moved its facilities out of the city and for the next 30 years the majestic Moorish style structure stood empty. Then in 2006 Peter Acworth, CEO & founder of Kink.com finally bought the property for 14.5 million. He believed the look and feel of the old building was the perfect setting for the BDSM porn he produces!

Before the tour began, we were well advised by our amazing guide Dane Ballard what they do there and how they do it. If you weren't down, you were  free to leave and a few people actually did. Kink.com is one of the rare production companies which shoots both straight & gay porn under one huge roof! Dane spent extensive time explaining the on-camera interviews before and after scenes, recent condoms restrictions, safe words & aftercare. Obviously model safety is most important when dealing with ropes, chains, and machines (yes machines…we’ll get there).

Okay, the first stop on the tour was the fancy Upper Floor where a private party was just getting started. The room is decorated beautifully with deep cherry wood furnishings, leather sofas and maroon colored walls. Adorning these sexy walls are several oil paintings showcasing different scenes & prominent models from the Kink family. We’re told Acworth commissioned artists to create these unique works & as we entered the room, I spotted this one with the James Deen!

I work at a movie studio and was really impressed with Kink’s attention to detail on their sets. Their production teams take pride in making the sets look authentic on camera and the sheer amount of facades they’ve designed is staggering. There’s the chain room used mostly for the Story of O. Dane explained how the chains are chemically treated to look old and rusty even though they’re brand new and safe for play. We were asked to remove our shoes before entering the set used for Ultimate Surrender as to not scuff the red tile that surrounds the padded floor used for wrestling events! Yes, they have Boy on Boy & Girl on Girl naked wrestling here! There’s an apartment set, a bar, and a wet room that looks like a meat locker. I can’t forget the sauna & locker room sets and the padded room used for Hogtied. Finally the Fucking Machines set. Although we couldn't go inside, everyone was mesmerized by the about of tools on the selves. As the name would suggest, all types of machines are tricked out with dildos & vibrators to use during scenes. #PimpMyVibe :)

Not only is this place enormous but it also has a creek in the basement! Mission Creek runs underneath the building and when Kink took over the space, the basement was flooded over 5 feet from the natural spring. I realized standing in the basement, this is where the infamous Panda GangBang was filmed! This is where my Baby Panda was born! Well JD was the smallest gang banger in the group which lead him to call himself  a “Baby Panda”! THIS IS MY DEENAGE MECCA!

Although I could have roamed the halls of Kink for hours, sadly our two tour came to an end. The tour far exceeded my expectations and it was so exciting to experience a place with such mystique!

Some of you reading this might be hesitant to visit a fetish porn studio. I get it! Even with "50 Shades of Whatever", many people are still skeptical and lack knowledge about BDSM. Some of my friends believed we’d be bound, gagged and gang banged upon entering the Armory but unfortunately, that DID NOT happen. You don’t have to be into hardcore BDSM to appreciate a little Kink! And if you like a little spanking & hair pulling, maybe go a little further and to try something outside your comfort zone! You don't have to go all whips, ropes & chains because there's plenty of less intense ways to explore your kinker side! 

I feel a level of empowerment comes from being pushed to your limits and from what I’ve heard the high you get from it is intense. I’m not sure I’m ready to be tied up just yet, but after going on the Kink tour at The Armory, I’m definitely more intrigued.
